Why visit?

Why visit Maldives?

The Maldives defines barefoot luxury. 1,190 coral islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, lagoons so clear the horizon seems to dissolve, overwater villas with glass floors that turn the ocean floor into the view. Slip into the water at dusk to find the sea itself glowing, and return the next morning to drift among manta rays feeding just beneath the surface. Here, the only real decision each day is how close to the water you want to be.

Unique

What makes Maldives unique

  • Overwater villas with glass floors turn the ocean into your bedroom ceiling, complete with private pools, personal butlers, and steps that lead straight into the reef.
  • Hanifaru Bay, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, draws manta rays by the hundreds to feed just beneath the surface, while whale sharks glide through Maldivian waters year-round.
  • At Vaadhoo and Mudhdhoo, the shoreline lights up after dark. Bioluminescent plankton turn the surf into scattered stars underfoot, best seen on a night swim or a quiet stretch of sand beneath an open sky.
  • Dinner, meanwhile, can happen six metres beneath the waves. At Ithaa, the world's first undersea restaurant, and at SEA in Baa Atoll, home to the world's first underwater wine cellar, the reef becomes the view, and the ocean becomes the room.

Getting there

How to get there

Fly into Malé (MLE) through Dubai (Emirates), Doha (Qatar Airways), Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Abu Dhabi (Etihad), London (British Airways), or Frankfurt (Lufthansa) - each offering a nonstop final leg into Malé. From there, most resorts are reached by seaplane (roughly 20–45 minutes, longer for outer atolls) or a domestic flight paired with a speedboat transfer. Leshy arranges VIP meet-and-greet, private seaplane charters, and yacht transfers for those who'd rather arrive by water.

Seasons

When to visit

November - April (dry season, NE monsoon) brings the calmest seas and clearest visibility - ideal for diving, snorkelling, and simply being on the water. May - October (SW monsoon) shifts the appeal: bigger swells draw surfers, manta ray aggregations peak at sites like Hanifaru Bay, and resort rates typically drop, though occasional rain showers are part of the trade-off.
